Maria came to the United States from Uruguay as a child and found her love of real estate during the purchase of her first two-family home at the age of 23. From there she knew that a career in real estate was a perfect fit for her. While attending Rutgers University she learned of the new Center for Real Estate and took her first class in the subject, Real Estate Finance, taught by Morris Davis Ph.D., Paul V. Profeta Chair of Real Estate and the Academic Director of the Rutgers Center for Real Estate.
Her experience in the class further cemented her passion for real estate and motivated her to join the Real Estate Society, where she became Co-President, and was a driving force in the Society earning its official status at Rutgers Business School.
During her course of studies, the Center for Real Estate helped Maria land an internship position at Transwestern Commercial Services where she assisted the brokerage, market research, and management services teams.
Working with her mentor at the Center for Real Estate and Emerging Leaders Council member, Eric Diamond, Maria secured an interview with a managing director at Duff & Phelps, a world renowned real estate valuation and corporate finance advising firm. Maria was quickly hired by the firm’s Princeton, N.J. office as a Real Estate Analyst in their Real Estate Advisory Group based on her experience and coursework at the Center for Real Estate. This position will allow her to further her passion and continue to be an emerging leader in the field of real estate.
“My experience with the Rutgers Center for Real Estate has been nothing short of amazing. I got to network and learn from the best people in the industry. The Advisory Board and Emerging Leaders Council members are not only great resources, but they are also more than willing to help students,” said Ms. Burgos. “I was able to accomplish more than I had expected thanks to the Rutgers Center for Real Estate and the guidance from the professors and board members. I look forward to bringing the experiences I had and lesson learned at the Rutgers Center for Real Estate into my new position at Duff Phelps.”
